The particular focus of the offered courses will be on the practical training and experience for the students. Frequently Asked Questions
ENGLISH LANGUAGE
We normally expect learners wishing to undertake course to have IELTS 5.5 or its equivalent. Additional language support is available for learners who feel they would benefit from extra tuition. Learners will be assessed by a qualified Language specialist in order to ensure that they are placed at the correct class level.

Q: How do I know if I am an International Student?

A: In general, if you are not a national of one of the member states of the European Union (EU) and are not a Refugee or Asylum Seeker, then you are an International Student and must pay international rather than home fees.

Q: If I study at Manchester College of Higher Education and Media Technology  can I apply for student's loans?

A: Manchester College of Higher Education and Media Technology  is registered and recognised as a educational establishment accredited by number of education bodies and universities. Students are eligible to apply for various financial assistance. Students loan company, City and Guild and many other bursaries are available particularly to students taking higher education HND, HNCs, teaching diplomas.

 

Q: I am a school leaver. Are there any courses which I can enrol?

A: Manchester College of Higher Education and Media Technology  offers school leavers from B-Tec level 2 to 3 and A levels in conjunction with national diplomas in number of subjects work related qualification which will give access you to university (UCAS points)

Q: What about accommodation?
A: We offer students college accommodation and also we will help all international students to get proper accommodations and also help them to open bank accounts, register with GP and getting NI Number.

Q: Is it expensive to live in Manchester?
A: Accommodation is likely to cost between £56 – £90 per week. You should probably allow about £90 a week for living expenses excluding your rent.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: Each year of an Post Graduate course costs £6,500, Under Graduate course costs £6,000 and diploma course costs £4,500 and short diploma course costs £1,200.

Q: How much fee do I have to send with my application?

A: Once the application has been accepted a conditional offer letter will be issued. International students must pay 50% of the course fee with application. Under graduates £2,250, post graduate £3,250.
 

Q: When will CAS/Visa letter be issued?

A: Once issued the students must demonstrate that they are able to pay full fee on enrolment i.e. copy of bankers draft and or bank guarantee. EU Students are required to pay £50 fee with the application.

 

Q: What happens if British High Commission discover that there is a misrepresentation or fake documentation?

A: Student can seek review of decision. Internal process of British High Commission. If such review fails the college will not refund any fees paid as deposit. In all other cases the college will deduct £400 admin fee.
 

Q: How do I get to the College?
A: Manchester Air Port is 12 miles from the college main campus Cheetham Hill road. There are buses and train service from the air port journey time 30 minutes. Taxi services are also available at the cost of £25.

Late Payment Charge:                                              

Fees are payable on the 1st day of the enrolment by concession seven days grace is allowed. The final date for the payment is shown “Fees Payable By”. At the discretion by the principal fees may be paid in instalments by three months and 10% administration charge will be made on remaining balance maximum 50% of the outstanding fees.  Please note the handling charge inspect of credit cards or late payment is currently at 4% will be added to fees to cover the college cost.

Please note the payment date is as evidence by receipt of fees by the College banker of accounts department. The college bankers are Habib Bank UK limited, 2 Swan Street Manchester. If fees are not paid at Habib Bank four working days should be allowed for funds to reach the college account. Late payments will be charged at 4% per month.

Withdrawal and Fees in Lieu Notice:

Students are reminded should you wish to withdraw from the course during the normal period of education the whole one academic year fees is payable. Should you wish to withdraw from the second year you must give one term notice or second year whole fees become payable.

Terms and Conditions of Admission of International Students

 

The following Terms and Conditions are an integral part of an offer to study to international students at Manchester College of Higher Education and Media Technology and should be read carefully before you complete and submit the application form and send the signed copy with your application. 

 

1. The International student must be 18 years old or over to get admission in this college. 

 

2. Once the students receive the conditional offer letter from the college, they must pay the deposit mentioned on their Conditional letter. 

 

3. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the college of any changes to their contact details (within 5 days). i.e. address, e-mail address, mobile, next of kin, starting or changing employer etc.

 

 4. All tuition fees must be paid prior to the commencement of classes in full. At the discretion of the Principal, you may be allowed to pay half of the fee in 3 monthly instalments. 

 

5. All bank charges will be paid by the students and will not be part of college tuition fee.

 

6. The students should be aware that books and accommodation are not included in tuition fee.

 

 7. The College policy is very clear. There will be no refunds once a student has been granted a visa.  However, tuition fee is only refundable subject to the following conditions:

 

(i)                        In case of visa rejection, MCHEMT will refund the entire deposited amount except £400 (Administration Charges) upon filling up refund claim form and provision of original Refusal Letter issued to the student by British High Commission.

 

(ii)                       In case of appeal against refusal, refund will not be made until the  case is decided.

 

(iii)                     Student will return all the original letters and receipts of the deposited fee issued by the college.

 

8. MCHEMT reserves the right to cancel or postpone a course: 

 

(i)                 If there are insufficient students to conduct a class; 

(ii)               In case of unavoidable circumstances.  However, students will be offered an alternative course or refund of fee.

 

 9. Student may be transferred to another course within the college subject to permission from Head of Academics and an additional fee may be payable, as following:  

 

(i)                 The student needs to meet the entry requirements for the course and it must be running in the same intake and not be of lower level than that originally accepted on.

 

(ii)               There must be available places on the course.

 

(iii)             A change of course form must be completed or written request made and a charge of £100 must be paid or adjusted from the students’ account. 

 

(iv)             The fee difference, if lower, will not be refunded, but will be held on our College account for further courses that may be taken by the student.

 

(v)               The funds are not transferable to another student. 

 

10. In case of non-attendance or failure in examination, the student will pay the appropriate re-sit examination fee. 

 

11. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that external examination entries are submitted in time to the appropriate examining body and the Registration/Examination fees for Examination Boards are fully paid. 

 

12. If you arrive 30 minutes after the start of class, you will be marked as Late; only 50% attendance will be allowed for that session. MCHEMT Tutors/Lecturers may exclude late arrivals from their class until the scheduled break.

 

13. You should inform us if you are going on holiday or going abroad. This is not allowed during term time (see Home Office Rules). If there are exceptional and significant circumstances, please put this in writing to the college with any supporting evidence and your request will be considered. 

14. Request for deferment – The new Tier 4 Visa rules are very clear. Should a student wish to defer must return to home country and reapply. However, if you have mitigating circumstances, please write a letter or e-mail explaining the situation to the Administration Departments (info@manchestertechnologycollege.com) You must provide evidence to support your request and an appointment will be made for you to further discuss any issues.  

 

15- International students are required to attend a full-time course of at least 16 hours of organised day time study per week. The college will not provide attendance certificates to students with less than 85% attendance. Absences through ill health must be supported by a Medical Certificate.  85% attendance is essential to comply with the UK Government Student Visa rules. Under the PBS Tier 4 student visa system (from 31st of March 2009) the college is your licensed sponsor in the UK, and is required BY LAW to report student absent for 10 points of contact.  

 

16- The college will not facilitate any students who are in breach of the Immigration Rules. If a student is required by the Home Office to leave the U.K. because of non/poor attendance, or due to any breach of law, tuition fees paid will not be refundable.

 

 17. Care of student belongings – The College takes no responsibility for students’ belongings. Any items found in the College should be handed in to Reception. You should contact Reception if you have lost anything. 

 

18. General student rules:

 

·         Please carry your student ID at all times;

·         No smoking is allowed in any part of the college, including the toilets;

·         Switch off your mobile phones in class;

·         No littering, no eating nor drinking in class;

·         No plagiarism (copying) – SEVERE PENALTIES may be applied;

·         No verbal aggression;

·         All students must respect other cultures at all times;

·         Assignment re-submission and late submission procedure and penalties may vary according to  Tutor/Course Coordinator. 

 

19. The information provided is correct at the time of going to publication and is subject to change without prior notice.

 

 

20. In the case of breach of college &/or UKBA policies and subsequent termination of the student’s enrolment &/or visa, ALL fees paid will be forfeited.
